Barot is a small, stunningly picturesque village.It is part of the cascading Ulh River situated in the Mandi district of Himachal. For the simple reason that, it is away from the highway, it exudes peace in true sense of the word. That being the case, it is termed as a trekker’s paradise. Barot Valley was initially developed for a hydel power project in 1920s and the relics of the British regime are still part of the region. In fact, pre Independence, Barot was on the mule trail connecting Kullu Valley to Kangra Valley. The town has a range of outdoor activities, including a trout breeding centre, angling and trekking.
Rajgundha, in particular is a small village lying between the Dhauladhar Ranges and is not connected by any roads. It is situated at a height of approximately 8900 ft and not to mention, it witnesses beautiful sunsets and sunrises every day. In other words, it is a popular trekking spot for all the adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers.
A village full of life and energy, Rajgundha follows the old ways of living and believes in self-sustenance. There are a couple of villages in the Rajgundha valley which are connected to each other, however, can only be reached via walking or by hiring a mule. The primary occupation of villagers here is farming. They use the same produce to prepare their own meals as well which results in a healthy diet. Similarly, from rajma to cabbage to potato, you will find everything fresh and highly nutritious over here.
Bir, on the other hand is located at a distance of 53 kms from Barot in the Joginder Nagar Valley. It is indeed a hub for ecotourism and spiritual studies. Moreover, it is known for its Buddhist Monasteries and meditation centers. In particular, a very famous destination for paragliding. Up on the hill from Bir, Billing is Asia’s first and the second highest Paragliding sites in the world. Here World Paragliding championships are held.
