JODHPUR, the second largest city in Rajasthan is popularly known as the blue city owing to the blue Brahmin houses in one part of the city. It is famous for its forts, palaces, step wells and havelis apart from its finger licking Rajasthani cuisine.

JAISALMER in the heart of the Thar desert in Rajasthan is a state bordering Pakistan also known as the ‘Golden city’ owing to its yellow sandstone architecture. It is famous for the Golden fort and sand dunes in the Thar and a city dripping with history and culture.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 -Jodhpur

    • On your arrival in Jodhpur, our representative (driver) will be available at Jodhpur railway station/ airport to pick you up and transfer to your place of stay here.
    • Later in the day, we have a sightseeing taxi tour of Jodhpur, in which you will visit various city attractions.
    • We shall first visit the Umaid Bhawan Museum which is part of the Umaid Bhawan Palace. It is one of the grandest 20th century Rajput palaces, built by Maharaja Umaid Singh of the Marwar-Rathore dynasty who commissioned the palace to give employment to his famine-stricken people. When it opened in 1943, it was considered one of the largest royal residences in the world. The museum gives the visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle and grandeur of the Rajput kings which includes antiques belonging to the royal family. It also showcases unique charms like stuffed leopards & several other decorative animal parts.
    • Later, visit the Mandore Gardens known for its charming collection of temples, high rock terraces, memorials, and variety of flora. The gardens house the Chattris (cenotaphs) of many rulers of Jodhpur state.
    • Next, visit the Toorji ka Jhalra- stepwells built in 1740s by a queen continuing an age-old tradition that Royal women would build public water works. Later, we shall return to the hotel after visiting the Clock tower market & Sadar Market for souvenirs and shopping.
    • Drop at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay
  • Day 2 -Jodhpur local

    • After breakfast, visit the iconic Mehrangarh fort which contains some of the finest palaces and preserves in its museum many priceless relics of Indian courtly life. It stands a hundred feet in splendour on a perpendicular cliff and is acknowledged as one of the best-preserved forts in India. After this, we shall visit Jaswant Tahda– built by Maharaja Sardar Singh to commemorate his father Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. It’s a white marble memorial overlooking the Mehrangarh fort.
    • Later, we shall visit the Jodhpur Bishnoi village located 22 km from the city. It is famous for Bishnoi tribes and various kinds of safaris. The residents of Bishnoi village are worshippers of Mother Nature and known for excellent block printing work and skilled shepherds as well. The locals abide by an eco-friendly sect of Hinduism.
    • By night, drop you back at the hotel for stay and dinner.
  • Day 3- Jaisalmer

    • In the morning after breakfast, check out and leave for Jaisalmer, which is a 4–5-hour drive and on route you can also plan stops at Pokhran & Ramdevra Temple. Pokharn is India’s first nuclear test site. 12 kms from Pokharan on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Road, Ramdevra temple is sacred to the folk deity of Rajasthan- Bab Ramdevji, a saint of the 14th century who Hindus regard a sthe incarnation of Lord Krishna, while Muslims venerate him as Ramshah Pir.
    • By 3 pm you will arrive at Jaisalmer hotel, where after check in, you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city.
    • We shall visit the Gadisar Lake built by the founder of Jaisalmer, King Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD, which today serves as an oasis in the midst of the Thar Desert. This is a man-made lake where you can enjoy boating
    • Later, visit Vyas Chhatri– named after Ved Vyas, writer of Mahabharata and this cenotaph is just outside Jaisalmer city.
    • We shall then head to the Mandir Palace– this small palace is an exquisitely carved architectural marvel of ornate balconies, canopies and delicately carved screens which is a finest example of craftsmanship.
    • In the evening return to the hotel for overnight stay and dinner
  • Day 4 -Jaisalmer local

    • After breakfast, check out of your hotel and firstly visit the Golden fort – or Sonar Qila.Its a 250 feet tall fort protected by 30 feet long walls. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site with outstanding fusion of Islamic & Rajputana architecture style. It offers a panoramic view of the city of Jaisalmer city with endless shopping & eating options
    • fter exiting from the Golden fort, we shall visit the Patwon ki Haveli & Nathmal Haveli at Jaisalmer Fort. These havelis were once private residences which now offer a treat to the eyes owing to their intricately carved windows and balconies, gateways, archways, wall paintings, furniture and artwork in typical Rajputana style.
    • If time permits, you can also visit the Jain temples in the fort premises.
    • By 2 pm or after lunch, you will check out of Jaisalmer city and we shall arrive at Sam sand dunes (45-minute drive) & check in at a desert camp.At Sam sand dunes, we have a series of activities for you.
    • Desert Safari at dunes on the camel back
    • Musical dance show at the camp
    • Buffer dinner followed by night stay at the camp
  • Day 5 – Jaisalmer to Longewala- Indo-Pak Border

    • After your breakfast at the camp, you will check out and till evening, we have planned a sightseeing tour for you. We will first proceed to the Longewala border (the actual border is 15 km away from here) where the battle of Longewala took place between India and Pakistan in 1971. Visit the Longewala War Memorial and the Tanot Mata temple here.
    • Later, on your way back we shall take you to Kuldhara Haunted Village which was once a prosperous village of Palliwal Brahmins but one night in 1825, all the people and the nearby 83 villages vanished in dark. Legend has it that Salim Singh, the evil prime minister during that time, set his eyes upon the daughter of the village head and declared he would marry her, with or without her consent. Today it’s a haunted village in ruins where no one lives anymore.
    • Later, come back to Jodhpur city for overnight stay and dinner.
    • And by next morning, this tour will come to an end and we will drop you at Jaisalmer (of Jodhpur) railway station/ airport.
  • TRAVEL FACTS/ EXCLUSIONS

    • Any meals other than those specified. Expenses of personal nature such as tips, telephone calls, laundry, liquor, shopping etc.
    • Entrance fee, if any during sightseeing.
    • Vehicle will be provided on a point-to-point basis and will not be at disposal of the guest.
    • Any activity or sightseeing not mentioned in the itinerary.
    • Certain sightseeing places may not be covered due to bad roads or unsuitable weather conditions and no refund is applicable in such circumstances.
    • The guests should adhere to hotel / home stay check in and check out timings. Late or early check in & check out is at the discretion of the property and Hill Gypsy does not guarantee it.
    • Any expenses arising out of unforeseen circumstances like flight / train /bus delay / any additional meals / weather conditions.
